Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my poll. A number of respondents have expressed an interest in knowing what I think about this issue.
I personally oppose this project. I believe that the construction of a Muslim mosque two blocks from Ground Zero in New York City is insensitive and offensive to not only the families of the 9-11 victims but to most of America.
It is completely understandable that many families of 9-11 victims are troubled by the fact that a Muslim mosque and "community center" might be built so close to sacred ground where 3,000 innocent women, children, and men lost their lives in an unprovoked attack by al-Qaeda.
Furthermore, some concern has been raised about the comments the community center's leader, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has made in the past about certain terrorist groups and responsibility that the United States should bear for Islamic terrorist attacks it has faced over the years.
Before anything should be done to build a Mosque so very close to Ground Zero, appropriate authorities should thoroughly review Imam Rauf's comments and writings, and the nature of any relationship his "community center" might have with various Middle East governments and organizations to ensure that there are no direct or indirect ties to any terrorist group.
