One Trillion and Climbing!!

For the first time in the history of our great nation, the deficit has reached $1 trillion.  Experts predict that federal spending could very well exceed revenues by almost $2 trillion by this fall.

There is no question that the deficit has increased dramatically, in large part because of the so-called stimulus package of almost $800 billion.  Congress hastily enacted the bill in February without any thought or strategic planning. I opposed the bill because it exploded our national debt without providing any meaningful economic growth. Since the bill was signed into law, we have lost two million jobs and unemployment has reached a 26 year high of 9.5 percent.

American families have always known a basic economic fact that politicians in Washington, DC just can't seem to understand - you can't spend more money than you have!! Not a difficult concept, is it? I certainly learned the concept as a businessman and in raising my family. Most Americans live by that very basic rule. But they just don't get it. Maya MacGuineas, president of the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget recently said, "Most anybody who's being honest knows we've reached a point where we've got a very dangerous fiscal situation, and it won't fix itself." Too bad Washington hasn't been listening.

I will continue to oppose the reckless spending of official Washington at every opportunity. I have said many times, I am a businessman, not a politician. I have created jobs, met payrolls and balanced budgets. I know what makes a strong economy and just as importantly I know what will harm our economy -higher taxes, more overly burdensome regulations, and ballooning deficits are not the answer. You and I know that the last thing we need in these difficult economic times is an out of touch Congress and President who increase taxes and spend your hard-earned dollars in a reckless manner.

Federal revenues are down 17.9 percent from a year ago. And yet government spending is at an historic high. The American people understand the need to cut personal spending and live within their means. What will it take for Washington to follow the lead of the people who put them all in office?

I am not sure why and how I got your email and/or message but I support the health care package and I dont care if taxes go up to pay for it. We cant have thousands of Americans be without health care; health care costs have spiraled out of control; and you know what? if we didnt go to a senseless war in Iraq under that horrible Pres Bush, the economy wouldnt be as bad as it is now; no one sent an email about spending being out of control then but now when Americans who cant go to a doctor, get medication, get the health care they need and Pres Obama comes up with a plan to help OUR people (Americans), you want to stop spending. I have a brother, mother and father who I have to send monies to every other week for medicine, doctor visits, etc. and barely can afford to eat because of it; so sorry, you have the wrong person; thanks and have a nice day

Please support the private option for health care. I know you do not want to do it since it is a Republican thing to oppose everything the President suggests.

It is the only hope for my wife to obtain decent medical insurance coverage at a fair price. The Blue Cross monopoly in Florida must stop.

Health Care reform with the public option is not a government take-over as you suggest and history will prove it to be just as important as the passage of social security. You have a chance to be on the right side of history.

I would be surprised to see you change your position and do the right thing, but I thought I had an obligation as a constituent to tell you.

    Best Regards,

Regarding health care legistlation: if I wish to reduce my homeowners and auto insurance, I opt for higher deductibles, thereby paying for the small incidences of loss out of pocket, as they might occur....why can't health insurance be marketed the same way? Some might call this catastropic health insurance...why do we need to be reimbursed for every earache or nose bleed or broken arm? Also, Why can't Medicare deductible, now $135 per person per year be increased to say, the first $1000 of medical expense? It is rediculously low at $135....that is used in the first office visit each year. Also, I suggest that medical equipment like electric wheel chairs, manual wheel chairs, oxygen generators, walkers, slings, etc not be paid by Medicare. Let the patient pay for these types of supplies.
