The American people deserve an open discussion of the health care bill and a government accountable to the people. That’s why I authored legislation calling for open and public meetings on the health care bill.
Unfortunately, it looks like the President and Democrats in Congress would rather bypass the conference committee and finish the discussion of this budget-busting bill in secret and then ram it through the Congress for a final vote.
To hold the President accountable, I drafted and sent a letter to him last week calling for “sunshine” on the process. During the 2008 campaign the President understood the importance of an open process and supported C-SPAN coverage. Now, as C-SPAN has offered to cover the health care talks in Congress, the White House has been silent about the prospect of giving the American people an open window onto the process. That’s unacceptable.
You have my commitment to continue to fight for open hearings..

I hope you will leave me a comment and let me know what you think about opening up the process.
The way this Congress has tried to draft this bill has been backwards from the beginning. First Democrat leaders rushed to ram this bill through the House and Senate for a vote. Now Democrat leaders in Congress and the White House are trying to hide the final discussions behind closed doors. This bill will impact every American. We deserve better leadership.
